Dien Bien is a border mountainous province in the Northwest region, nearly 500km from Hanoi capital. It borders Lai Chau province to the north, Son La province to the east and northeast, Yunnan province - China to the northwest, and Laos to the west and southwest. Dien Bien has a tropical monsoon climate so the temperature is quite cool with an average temperature of 21 to 23 degrees Celsius. Heavy rain usually focuses on June, July, and August. You should avoid traveling to Dien Bien during this time because the road will be quite slippery, not suitable for going out or sightseeing.
